Meet the Fundraising Day 2019 Management Team!
Maeve Strathy - Chair
Maeve is a passionate and driven Fundraising Strategist at Blakely Inc. Every day, she works with her clients on meeting and exceeding their fundraising goals, through a focus on insights-driven strategy, high-value donor relationships, integrated multi-channel fundraising, and the best possible donor experience.
Prior to Blakely, Maeve spent nearly a decade in educational fundraising, gaining experience primarily in telemarketing and one-on-one solicitation at the mid- and major gift level.
Outside of her day-to-day work, Maeve is passionate about the fundraising profession – speaking internationally, and volunteering with the AFP Greater Toronto Chapter, most notably Chairing Fundraising Day 2019.
Gerri Nakirigya Lutaaya, MPNL - Education Chair
Gerri belongs to the Ngonge clan within the Buganda kingdom. In her role as Education Committee Chair, Gerri has been persistent in building trust and blending the values of respect, honesty and laughter within her team to develop this year’s slate of educational programming. We hope you enjoy what we've put together!
Gerri is committed to Nelson Mandela’s challenge that “a degree means nothing unless you go out into the community to prove yourself.” In response to that call, Gerri is an active grassroots volunteer working closely with CivicAction’s Emerging Leaders Network, People for Education’s NextGen Committee and as a Board Member with Young Women’s Leadership Network.
Born in Halifax, raised in Ottawa, Gerri is a singer, baker and Toronto resident bike rider.
Klim Khomenko - Education
Klim Khomenko is the Senior Development Manager at the University of St. Michael’s College in the University of Toronto, where he works to increase donor engagement and philanthropic giving at the major giving level.
A values-driven fundraising professional who approaches challenges with positivity and creativity, Klim enjoys connecting philanthropic individuals with opportunities to unlock the boundless human potential of the global community.
Klim holds an Ontario College Graduate Certificate in Fundraising Management with Honours from Humber College, as well as an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Politial Science from the University of Toronto. He is currently working towards his accreditation as a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE), and is thrilled to be a member of the Fundraising Day 2019 planning committee.
Katherine Verhagen Rodis - Education & Delegate Experience
I’m interested in social justice philanthropy: my passions include feminism, anti-racism, LGBTQ+, and mental health issues. I started out as a volunteer grant writer and an academic then transitioned into the non-profit sector. I’m proud to work at YWCA Toronto as the Foundations, Major Gifts and Planned Giving Officer, fundraising for programs and services for underserved women and girls.
For AFP Fundraising Day 2019, I serve on the Education and Delegate Experience Committees. 25 years ago, in 1994, I was in high school, with long hair and a tight perm, wearing bubblegum pink Converse shoes and neon cotton, oversized sweaters. My hobbies were reading fiction voraciously, playing games on my Super NES, and getting into arguments about sexism in TV advertising.
Katie Ribout - Education & Delegate Experience
Katie Ribout is thrilled to be a new member of the Fundraising Day 2019 committee! She is part of the Annual Giving Team at Sinai Health Foundation and a recent graduate of Humber College’s Fundraising Management Program. Her love of non-profit work stemmed from her years at Ronald McDonald House Charities Toronto. There, she most recently worked as a Family Services Associate, serving families in need whose children were receiving life-saving treatment at Sick Kids and other hospitals in Toronto.
In 1994, Katie was 5 years old and dreamed of a career in Fundraising... just kidding. Katie was obsessed with Ms. Frizzle and trying desperately not to pick her nose.
Aaron Sanderson - Sponsorship
Aaron Sanderson, MA, CFRE, FAHP, leads Plan International Canada's major gifts (individual and corporate), planned giving and strategic events programs and partnerships as Vice-President, Philanthropy.
He is an international award-winning fundraiser with over a decade of experience at leading non-profit organizations, including: War Child, SickKids Foundation and BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. In addition, he has a decade of senior volunteer experience with non-profit boards and committees, including: The Arthritis Society, Habitat for Humanity, Heritage Toronto, Athletics Ontario, University of British Columbia and the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
Aaron holds a MA in Philanthropy and Development, an Associates Certificate in Non-Profit Management and a BA in Political Science and International Relations. He is accredited with the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation, and was inducted as a Fellow of the Association of Healthcare Philanthropy (FAHP). He was named Top 40 Under 40 in North America by the latter association in 2018.
Ivanca Naje - Education & Delegate Experience
Having recently graduated from the Humber Fundraising Management Program, Ivanca is currently with the Sunnybrook Foundation as a Stewardship Assistant. She’s excited to serve on both the Education and Delegate Experience Committee for the first time this year at AFP’s 25th Anniversary.
Carol Strauss - Marketing & Communications
Carol Strauss is an Account Manager at Stephen Thomas Ltd. As a non-profit marketing communications professional, Carol is passionate about developing marketing strategies and executing campaigns to support organizations in reaching their fundraising goals.
Prior to Stephen Thomas Ltd, Carol managed marketing and communications at The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, overseeing national brand and collateral development for core fundraising programs and driving marketing strategies at the regional level.
In addition to a career in marketing and volunteering with the AFP Greater Toronto Chapter, Carol enjoys travelling and spending time underwater. As a certified scuba diving, some of her most memorable moments include diving the SS Thistlegorm in Egypt and cenotes in Mexico.
Lindsey Hodgson - Marketing & Communications
Lindsey builds brands for a better world! She has led the communications and marketing efforts for Sinai Health Foundation for the past six years with a focus on creative and brand. She has almost 20 years experience in marketing healthcare organizations including SickKids Foundation where she helped build their world-class brand and created multi-channel, award-winning brand campaigns. She is an experienced Editor, Creative Director, Content Curator and Leader.
Zak Bailey - Education
Twenty-five years ago, Zak was just finishing his second year in fundraising. Twenty-five years later, many of Canada’s largest and most prominent charities have come to rely on Zak’s experience as a senior fundraiser to help them with their challenges and develop their opportunities. Before establishing his consultancy, Zak held senior fundraising roles at the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Alzheimer Society of Canada, The Arthritis Society of Canada, Canadian Centre for Philanthropy (now Imagine Canada), Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, and the Ontario Liberal Party.
He is active in the profession - volunteering and sharing his expertise at local, national and international fundraising conferences as a presenter and speaker. He gives back to the community as a donor and leadership volunteer. His most current passion project is helping the Rev. Brent Hawkes establish “Rainbow Faith and Freedom” – a new organization dedicated to confronting religious-based homophobia in Canada and around the world.
